Caïna - Temporary Antennae (2008)

Caïna is a post-black metal band from England. Andrew Curtis-Bignell plays all of the instruments for this band and has composed all of the music himself, which makes this release even more impressive.

Caïna purvey a very dark, sometimes trippy and psychedelic sound. The music takes influences from many genres, mainly black metal and shoegaze/dream pop/space rock. A lot of songs on here will start off very smooth and soothing, but will transition into crushing, dark and atmospheric riffs. You will notice this on the song "Willows and Whippoorwills".

The lyrics are not always comprehensable, but you can still get a feel for the general themes of the music when listening. The lyrics are very well-written, and are very intelligent and fluent in their approach.

Another plus about this album is the fact that it is fairly easy listening for any occasion. It is calming and atmospheric enough to fall asleep to, but not so much that you wouldn't want to listen to it at any other time.

This album is haunting, soothing, and bone-chilling in its ways... I would highly recommend it to fans of black metal, shoegaze, or any other dark ambient music.

Fen - Malediction Fields (2009)

Hello everybody out there, My name is Adam. I originally made this blogger account to post comments on other people's blogs, but I thought I would try and create a music blog. In this blog, my goal will be to post an album, write a small review, and post a download link so others can listen to it.

So. Let's get started, shall we?

Fen is an atmospheric black metal band from Great Britain. When I first heard their EP "Ancient Sorrow" last year, I immediately fell in love with them. They play a very melancholic and atmospheric brand of black metal that is unlike anything I have ever heard. Their EP was fairly basic, but on this debut full-length, you will hear influence from a variety of genres. When I listen, I hear different elements from shoegaze and even from post-rock.
Like many atmospheric black metal bands, Fen purvey themes centered on nature and melancholy. I would highly recommend this album to anyone who is a fan of Agalloch, Alcest, or Ulver.
